Hazy Strobes is the latest single by rising synthpop act, Fragrance., a harbinger of the Parisian artist's debut full length, Now That I’m Real, which releases on February 22nd through the underground label, Synth Religion.
The wistful synthpop cultivation of Hazy Strobes finds Matthieu Roche collaborating with the estimable coldwave act, Hante. (Hélène de Thoury), while the upcoming album also features the contribution of the great Maya Postepski (Austra, TR/ST, Princess Century) lending her vocals on one song, and playing a part on the production of a couple more.
A pristine connection of two soft and elegant voices, Hazy Strobes is melancholic synthpop at its finest, and an absorbing piece which once again uncovers Fragrance.'s very strong production skills, his proneness towards lushness and good ear for artful, exciting electronica.
The beautiful accompanying visual features an 18-year old, then still unknown, Hedy Lamarr, in scenes from the 1933 Czech film, Ecstasy, by Gustav Machatý, which match the music's broody spirit in all respects.
