Hailing from Oslo, Norway, post punk act, Mayflower Madame, have been on a consistent rise since the release of their debut album, Observed In A Dream, from 2016. The band has shared stages with incredible acts such as Killing Joke, Moon Duo and Psychic Ills among many others, and have been turning heads their way for their well constructed sound, founded on shoegaze, noise rock and punk qualities.
Prepared For A Nightmare will be the band's anticipated sophomore full length, and first example off it, the piercingly dark, Vultures, finds them exploring even gloomier and darker territories, and a sound that challenges the boundaries of darkwave and post punk, leaning toward something harsher and more industrial bent.
"The lyrics revolve around feelings of excess," the band reveal about the new piece, "lust and greed, always wanting and needing more, never getting enough, and how one sometimes can seem to push things further and further like we're waiting and almost longing for everything to burst. It's a not a coincidence that this also reflects concerns about how modern society in general is evolving."
Vultures comes with a gripping, dark psychedelic visual, directed by illustrator, Astrid Serck, who made excellent use of collage animations and video footage, including that of the band performing live, as well as a dance sequence by Norwegian drag artist, Remi Johansen Hovda.
Mayflower Madame are Trond Fagernes (vocals/guitar/bass), Havard Haga (guitar) and Ola J. Kyrkjeeide (drums). Prepared For A Nightmare releases March 27th 2020 through Only Lovers Records (France), in collaboration with Little Cloud Records (USA) and Icy Cold Records (France).
