Because the apocalypse is far from over, and because Bandcamp keeps waiving its share to benefit artists, many of which find the opportunity to give back themselves by donating to all kinds of charities, a variety of interesting releases pops up every first Friday of the month.
Bandcamp Fridays are here to stay, and we have recommendations. These are our picks for September 4th, 2020.
First off there are a couple of massive compilations, one benefiting the Movement for Black Lives including many hardcore and metal acts, from Thou, Sunn 0))) and Primitive Man to Jesus Piece and Cult Leader. Boston label Run For Cover put out an anthology of demos and voice memos featuring some of their great artists like Tigers Jaw, Pity Sex, Young Guv and many more.
Sonic Youth love Bandcamp a whole lot lately, and release another anthology of rarities of which one can never have enough.
Similarly, Boris revisit the older catalog again, and unleash the three-volume (+ one additional) experimental work, the thing which solomon overlooked, which was originally released gradually from 2004 to 2013.
Post rock veterans Mogwai release a live recording from 2018, while Old Man Gloom and Zozobra put out a joint release from their live appearance at 2019's Roadburn Festival.
Massachusetts dreampop band, Constant Smiles, revealed a compilation of demos from 2012 to 2018, and Bandcamp Friday regulars, Crippled Black Phoenix, made available a lengthy anthology of "rare alternative mixes, unfinished versions, rare live recording and all the cover versions CBP has done."
Diamondstein unveiled a very special release in collaboration with photographer Kait Fischer, and Sub Pop issued a new track from San Diego post hardcore punks, Hot Snakes.
There will always be more, so make sure you keep an eye on your Bandcamp feed.
