Dakota Blue continues the elegant amalgamation of imaginative theatricality, cinematic atmospherics and unconventional songwriting in an overall idiosyncratic effect that is the artist's new, fourth album, My Idea of Perfection.
The moody opening cut, Blow Torch, picks at the album's title, and becomes an effectual introduction to its concept.
"Perfection is a loaded word, and highly subjective," Dakota Blue states, describing the album's theme. "When the world shut down, we were forced to find new ideas of perfection. The major theme of the record is embracing imperfect things and allowing your imagination to influence your whole life. The future is vague, the past is blurry so creating your own new perfect reality is the only way to cope. Allow room for slapstick and delusions, daydreaming and abstraction. The future may be uncertain but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing."
Evolved from an almost off-centre Bowie-esque foundation, Dakota Blue's distinct sound incorporates elements of goth, dreampop and new wave beyond comparison in current terms; a kind of individuality that's also reflected on the introspective nature of his work.
