Vyvyd will be the fourth album by Italian alternative/post punk band, New Candys, expected out on June 4th, 2021 via Little Cloud Records and Dischi Sotterranei, while an exclusive vinyl edition will be out through Fuzz Club.
First single, Twin Mime, comes across like a mixture of the more easily absorbable parts of Jesus And Mary Chain and Primal Scream, and it introduces a clearly strong release for the consistently rising band. Like its title suggests, the song is themed on duality, and extends to collected, esoteric notions like the repercussion's of one's actions, the force of personality opposed to reality, as well as nature's force contra humanity, as represented in the beautiful accompanying video by the active volcanoes.
Full of symbolisms and a good care for visuals, the coming Vyvyd came together over the course of two years between the band's tours, and it was recorded at Venice's Fox Studio by Andrea Volpato, mixed and mastered by Tommaso Colliva (Calibro 35, The Jesus And Mary Chain) and Giovanni Versari respectively.
"I’ve started to sketch some songs for the record during a very tumultuous period for the band, with many line-up changes between the end of 2017 until mid 2018, but as soon as the new line-up formed, the excitement to create new music together was overwhelming, and helped the creative process immensely," says frontman, Fernando Nuti.
"There was an urgency for us to evolve, to find a new chemistry and to convert it into something creatively fulfilling, something that could surprise us," Nuti continues. "The aim was to expand our sound into new territories, everyone in the band brought new ideas and influences to the table. We dived deeply into digital recording techniques, embracing them, using loops, real and virtual synths and drum machines, balancing them with the dirty analog sound the band always had."
"This record has its own mythology," he concludes, commenting on the concept and themes of Vyvyd. "We played with religious, pagan and archetypal symbols, which have been distorted through our lens. If we had to sum up the record in one concept it would be the contradiction of light: God/good is often represented with a bright glow, whilst Lucifer, the personification of evil, means light-bearer. We've been inspired by the visionary cinema of Kenneth Anger and Alejandro Jodorowsky among others."
