Coachella Valley, California-based, garb, began as a solo project by musician M. Carrick O'Dowd soon after the dissolution of his previous band Safety Net. Progressing from a more aggressive post-hardcore sound to a gentler approach, O'Dowd released Terminal, his debut LP under the garb moniker, in 2017, and followed it with the EP No Business in 2019.
garb then evolved into a full band, with Nick Sacro serving as co-writer, and on their new single, life-alert, they aim towards a fuller sound, citing influence from 12 RODS, Jawbox, Low and Duster.
life-alert exudes sadness and melancholy with its heavy shoegaze and slowcore sound, and finds the ever-evolving band on the fringes of primal post rock, with the guitar-laden lo-fi rock aspects plainly identifiable.
garb are composed of M. Carrick O’Dowd (songwriting, vocals, rhythm guitar), Nick Sacro (songwriting, drums), Nic Lara (lead guitar), and Lindsay Clark (bass). life-alert is the band's first single off their sophomore full length, due out later in 2022.
