Toronto shoegaze/alternative rock duo, Soft Set, made a pretty strong impression with the recent More, More, More, the first single off their upcoming album Still Life which was mixed by Shae Brossard (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and mastered by Simon Scott (Slowdive). The band have just revealed Diamond, the second single and video from the anticipated full length.
This time around, the band adopts a more straightforward post punk approach, covering a dark subject and implying variety throughout the record.
“We heard of this story of a boy who killed his mother and then himself in Jefferson Township, NJ, in the late 80s and the whole story was just so bizarre,” explains Soft Set’s James Gray. “He seemed to be a good kid and all of that changed within a matter of months leading up to the tragic night when everything changed. It’s a fascinating story and there’s a great podcast called ‘The Devil Within’ that explores what happened and what possibly drove this boy to do what he did. Check it out!”
