We hate obituaries, but we got to do them anyway…
Joe Cocker’s career and legacy doesn’t need a write up, he’s been around since 1969, he has accomplished a lot and desrvedly is considered one of the most popular English blues/rock/pop singers of all time. Sadly he passed away at the age of 70.
The truth is that Joe based the foundations of his popularity on other people’s songs and became mostly known for his cover versions, but even if it was for that With A Little Help From My Friends and Mad Dogs And Englishmen couple of albums only, he would have deserved our respect as a musician.
To say goodbye, I chose my personal favourite cover of his, one on a classic American standard, originally made known by Julie London, featuring Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge and some other Mad Dogs, from that insane Mad Dogs And Englishmen 1970 live record.
Here’s Cry Me A River…
