Bassist Fabio Pignatelli and drummer Agostino Marangolo, the rhythm section of the legendary progrssive rock band and italian horror score veterans, Goblin, have gotten together, hired some new members and under the name Goblin Rebirth they have recorded an album of new material that has just been released via Relapse.
Even if it is impossible to picture Goblin without Claudio Simonetti, Goblin Rebirth emulates the band's 70s feel remarkably well and with this imaginary soundtrack to a fictitious horror movie, they have created something that wouldn't be unfair to compare with Goblin's classic work.
Claudio Simonetti is one of the greatest italian composers of all time and his absence here is clearly audible. However, even hardcore Goblin fans who'd reject this based on the idea that the band's mastermind is absent, should give this a chance and eventually some credit, because it is absolutely worth it.
