Russian shoegaze/post-rock/dream/space-rock project, Sounds Of Sputnik, has teamed up with Canadian-Ukrainian duo Ummagma for their debut album, New Born which after being released in the UK on Ear To Ear Records in late 2014, now gets a US release via Moon Sounds Records, a Texan label that specializes on shoegaze and dreampop.
Obviously inspired by archetypal shoegaze acts like My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus And Mary Chain, Slowdive, as well as dreamier, post-rock bands like Hammock and Air Formation, Sounds Of Sputnik's obscure, dreamy sound matches Ummagma's ethereal contribution perfectly, especially regarding vocal work, but the album's impressive presences don't stop there. New Born also features guest appearances by members of Swervedriver, Brian Jonestown Massacre, OMD and producers Fran Ashcroft and Marc Joy who have worked with the likes of Damon Albarn and Primal Scream respectively.
