If you spent a considerable amount of your adolescence with some of those mythical sixties garage/psych rock compilations standing by your pillow, like myself, records and series of records like the Nuggets, the Pebbles, the Mindrocker and Back From The Grave, prepare to get excited again, because it seems like the lost art of compiling rare garage punk obscurities isn't over yet.
Thanks to Keb Darge and Cut Chemist, the fellows who brought you Lost & Found – Rockabilly & Jump Blues some ten years ago, a new garage rock compilation is just about to surface, packed with thirty rare tracks from thirty exceptional, still not much celebrated bands of that magical era.
"DJ Shadow told me I would like Garage years ago, but I didn’t listen," admits Keb Darge, an expert on soul, funk and rockabilly who now sounds enchanted with his newfound fascination with 1960s garage after being introduced to it by DJ Shadow, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and Cut Chemist, the hip-hop pioneer and founder of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli.
"This compilation is not aimed at the many collectors of this wonderful style of music. I am a very late arrival on this scene, and still have a hell of a lot to learn, and buy. This is more for people like I was just three years ago, people oblivious to beauty, power, and excitement of the sixties garage sound," Darge adds about The Dark Side which will be out on vinyl and CD on March 10th via Barely Breaking Even.
