Gifts Or Creatures is the folk/American project by Brandon and Bethany Foote of Lansing, Michigan. The husband-wife duo will be releasing its third album, Fair Mitten (New Songs of the Historic Great Lakes Basin), on September 22nd on Earthwork Music.
The upcoming album is a set of songs that honors their home of the Great Lakes Basin, examines the last four centuries in its history and digs on its importance, and it was recorded in Kalamazoo alongside Seth Bernard, Dan Rickabus (The Crane Wives) and Max Lockwood (Big Dudee Roo, May Erlewine).
"It covers topics such as the demise of the Arctic grayling, trapping and trading throughout the region, downtown Chicago, and Pontiac's Rebellion," the band states about their new record and adds: "The album digs deep into the history of the area; it celebrates it, and at times laments the historical stress within the region."
The first single off Fair Mitten is a well graced song titled Two Hearts (Two Peninsulas) and it's accompanied by an engaging and much attractive video comprised of vintage footage. The music video below is followed by the album's trailer in which Brandon explains more about the creative process and which is also really easy on the eyes.
