Following her previous singles, Speed of Light and Polaroid, New York's Girl As Wave keeps slowly but steadily building her reputation as a competent songwriter and performer, and she does it piece by piece.
Houdini, the enigmatic artist's latest single, is an easygoing song which despite its airiness and calm tone, it carries more than enough sentimentality to lure you in its wonderful songcraft. The song's cinematic feel meets and merges effortlessly with its subtle influences from Americana and country and western, highlighted by the elegance of reverb. Regardless of its many sides though, Houdini never looses its dreampop character, and surfaces as the most different and possible most creative single Girl As Wave has come up with this far.
