Sacramento psychedelic doom metal five-piece, CHRCH, have just embarked on a European tour in support of their upcoming sophomore album, Light Will Consume Us All, alongside St. Louis doom cult, Fister, with whom they released a split EP a few months ago. The new album is scheduled for release on the May 11th, 2018 on Neurot Recordings.
Just like their imposing debut, Unanswered Hymns, from three years back, CHRCH's new LP is comprised of three lengthy, epic in scope, heavy in both sound and sentiment songs which emerge like a fascinating fusion of the immediacy of sludge-y doom metal and psychedelic hard rock, and the experimentation of drone and dark ambience. It reads like the textbook definition of post metal, however, the magnitude of this band's sound doesn't feel neither neoteric nor exactly traditional, but more like an instinctual fluctuation between the two, as well as between light and darkness. From total trippy ambience to full on frothing, blastbeat extreme metal, Light Will Consume Us All, is another compelling offering from CHRCH that needs to be discovered.
About Portals, the 15-minute track which has been revealed ahead of the album's release, the band comment: "Portals is a great bridge between our albums. It demonstrates the foundation of our "sound" whilst also showing some of the ways in which our music has evolved. To our mind, it is also a good example of the various of emotions and ideas we are exploring with Light Will Consume Us All."
The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Patrick Hills (King Woman, Bog Oak, VRTRA) at Earthtone Studios in Sacramento, CA.
