As far as surprise releases go, here's finally one that actually matters. Converge have just dropped an EP out of the blue, comprised of four tracks from the same sessions that brought us last year's excellent The Dusk In Us.
Since then the band had been teasing with the idea of more recordings and a potential release. "Some of the songs on that album are actually some of the weakest ones that we recorded, and some of the ones that aren’t on the album are the strongest," the band's guitarist and acclaimed producer, Kurt Ballou, said back then.
Beautiful Ruin is out now on Epitaph, while Converge is out touring the US alongside Neurosis, Amenra, Birds In Row and other bands.
Edit: The band also unveiled a beautiful music video for Melancholia, directed by Tony Wolski.
