Los Angeles trio, Moaning, is one of the latest signings to the roster of the legendary Sub Pop label on which they released their self-titled debut full length back in March 2018.
The band had previously toured with Sub Pop labelmates, METZ, and as part of their third European tour they had the chance to stop by the Tapetown Studios in Aarhus, Denmark, where on August 24th, 2018 they laid down two songs in the limited time they had before going out on the road again.
Moaning's rough and gritty sound is perfectly captured and accurately presented in their cutting live delivery which conveys elements from both the more traditional post punk and the shoegaze-y aspect of their engrossing style. Artificial is one of their album's standout moments, and the Tapetown version of it streams for the first time below.
As much evocative of the darkness of Bauhaus, as it is of the sentimentalism in the brilliance of Slowdive, Moaning's live act is no less impressive than the well crafted sound of their album, and ultimately captivating.
Moaning are Sean Solomon (guitar, vocals), Pascal Stevenson (bass), and Andrew MacKelvie (drums).
