After three great albums it is time for Nothing to come up with a non-canonical full length release. Their upcoming compilation, Spirit Of The Stairs – B-Sides & Rarities, collects outtakes, demos and live recordings alongside a series of covers by acts such as Low, New Order, Ride, Concrete Blonde and Grouper. Notably absent is Nothing's version of Nirvana's Something In The Way, still, the fourteen-song release looks like a satisfying anthology of alternative takes by one of the best alternative rock bands of the last few years.
Nothing's previously unreleased cover of Grouper's Heavy Water/I’d Rather Be Sleeping from her 2008 album, Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill, is very close to the original, and makes up an atmospheric and enticing listen.
