Max Bloom has received a great amount of appreciation through his work with the acclaimed London-based indie rock band, Yuck, and through them he has shared stages with acts such as Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Alvvays, and has played festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. Since 2017 Bloom started making music on his own, distancing his personal act from the sound of his band.
To Be Alone is Bloom's first solo single and the first he wrote after the end of an eight-year-long relationship. Quit simple, yet, powerful, the song shows a more intimate side of the artist's writing for which he cites George Harrison, Elliot Smith and Harry Nilsson as major influences.
Superbly recorded and mixed by Max Bloom himself with additional drums by Ed Ripley, To Be Alone, bears its wistful character on its sleeves. Providing the nostalgia with extra moodiness, the vintage visuals of the figure skating video attached to the new song are a bizarre, yet, very nice addition.
