Pelican: Midnight and Mescaline

Giants of post metal heaviness and intricacy, Pelican, announce the release of a brand new LP, and introduce it through a crushing new track. Nighttime Stories will be out June 7th, 2019 via Southern Lord Recordings, and Midnight and Mescaline presents much of the band's sophisticated undertones which draw from many genres, including noise rock, sludge and punk.

Although the upcoming album is the band's first written entirely with guitarist, Dallas Thomas, who replaced founding member Laurent Schroeder-Lebec after his departure in 2012, the new song hints at the band's heavier side, massive, relentless and analogous to their early releases.

The new album also serves as a homage to Jody Minnoch, the late vocalist of Tusk, a band that also included Pelican members Trevor Shelley de Brauw, Larry Herweg, and Schroeder-Lebec. Nighttime Stories was supposed to be the next project of Tusk, cut short by Minnoch’s unexpected death in 2014. Some of the song titles come from Minnoch's notes for the unfinished album, while its overall direction toward a more artful heavy sound came unconsciously, and mostly through its association with the defunct art-grind band.
