Goth greats, Astari Nite, have been consistently coming on with wonderfully dark material since their inception in 2008, including two self-released LPs and one on Cleopatra Records. The band's next EP is due out February 2020 on on Danse Macabre Records, introduced by first single, As If You Were Dead, a moody, post punk goth rocker, produced by the band themselves and mastered by Jackknife Sounds owner and Actors frontman, Jason Corbett.
Themed on loss and death, the new track balances its slow-burning darkness with equal measures of restraint sureness and optimism, summoning up the beautiful downheartedness of Bauhaus and the brimful theatricality of Virgin Prunes.
"Knowing that you can never speak to someone ever again is the hardest part when dealing with death," lead singer Mychael Ghost says. "Never hearing that person speak or seeing them smile in front of you again, sure makes for a gloomy day. Nevertheless, one can only mourn for so long. In time, happiness will come in waves yet again and the memories just might stay a bit longer."
Astari Nite consist of Mychael (lead vocals), lllia Tulloch (drums), and Howard Melnick (guitar). A steady, contemporary goth force, the band has shared the stage with Peter Murphy, The Psychedelic Furs, Cold Cave, VOWWS, Modern English, and Andy Rourke of The Smiths among others.
