Dark Morph: BEKA YALO

Two very creative and significantly unconventional creative minds find each other through a fresh experimental project titled Dark Morph. The new act is composed of Sigur Rós' Jónsi and renowned composer, Carl Michael von Hausswolff, and their self-titled LP is coming on May 10th, 2019 via Krunk / The Vinyl Factory.

First sample surfaced, the album closer, BEKA YALO, offers a strong taste of the duo's experimental and eccentric artistic nature. The two artists began working on their material last summer, aboard a ship named Dardanella, making excellent use of a hydrophone and field recordings of animals such as humpback whales, bats, shrimp, and birds appropriately called dark morph herons.

"While we were on the boat I started to take the recordings, manipulate them and mutate them into drones or other types of musical functions," von Hausswolff says, "so we could use the sounds as instruments for building compositions. We decided, 'Let’s try not to have them sounding too much like real sounds, let’s turn them into something else.' When I had done some drones, some long tones out of a bird or something, I gave it to Jónsi and he started to peel off certain types of melodious things, and then play it to me. And then we started to just throw the ball back and forth."
