Philadelphia punks, Mannequin Pussy, will be releasing their upcoming third album, Patience, on June 21st, 2019 via Epitaph. The album was produced by Will Yip, and it has already been introduced by a couple of dynamic singles, Drunk II and Who You Are. Third piece, Cream, comes with a wonderful video composed of vivid imagery and seventies aesthetics, courtesy of director Hanna Hamilton.
While the video works fine like a two-minute horror flick, the song stands on the more aggressive and heavier side of the band's sound, on which they thrive as expected.
"For the music video we wanted to create a creepy, monochromatic and colorful world," says the band's Marisa Dabice (guitars and vocals). "The director, Hanna Hamilton tapped into the lyrics of the song and created a story around them. Being followed by and possessed by an entity that controls the people around it. It feels like a classic seventies horror movie that I wish existed in real life."
"Cream was inspired by the idea of working with Marisa and her sister," the director adds. "I wanted them to play each others’ doppelgänger in traditional horror tropes. This idea guided the design of the sets: 3 movable rooms each made to support a specific practical effect. I love the juxtaposition of horror with bright colors so we wanted the video to have a vibrant seventies look. In addition to the stylized wardrobe and set dressing we also used a vintage Cooke zoom super 16 lens and formatted the video to 4:3 to enhance this feel. Aside from that, the demons pretty much did the rest!"
