Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, genre-fusing/tough to pinpoint quartet, Julia Robert, enter impressively into the underground rock picture with a splendid debut single, Mud Girl. The song previously included in Fuzz Records' compilation, The Reverb Conspiracy - Volume 6, and now becomes the lead track of their freshly out full length, Pop Bullies.
Mud Girl is an infectious five-minute piece, danceable and merciless, as it amalgamates krautrock's mesmerizing rhythms with a punk rocking nerve and psychedelic touches in a completely unreserved manner.
Thematically Mud Girl bents towards a more surrealistic angle, while its lyrics chronicle the story of a woman who has found her place in the mud. As the band puts it: "It's not about being inspired and overcoming and ascending to your place, it's about getting down into the mud, covering your teeth with it and grinning through the world."
Julia Robert are Joao Luis Lanca Henriques, Ines Soutschka, Stara Bakrush and Roderick Hugh Alexander MacLeod.
Pop Bullies is out now on Now Now Just Now.
