Just in time to throw off our best videos of the year list, dark punks, The Wraith unveil the first visual off their debut album, Gloom Ballet, out now via Southern Lord.
The great looking new clip was directed, shot, and edited by Alisa Akay, and it's composed of scenes of the band performing, set against horror and dark themed ritualistic sections, well constructed, lit and colored. The video was shot over the course of two days in a historic haunted theater in North Hollywood, close to the studio owned by producer Mat Mitchell where the band recorded their album.
"Alisa would often drop by the studio during the Gloom Ballet sessions, and she later worked on some of Davey’s poetry videos," says bassist Paul Rogers about the director's involvement. "So, she really gets our sound and vibe, and we loved her vision for the video."
The opening séance was led by band's spiritual guide, psychic-medium, Tiffany Retrozombie. "Every time I closed my eyes I saw a blinding white light – I thought someone had turned on the production spotlights, but we were still sitting in the dark," guitarist Kaz Alvis thinks back. "When I mentioned it to the medium, her eyes got very big and she said it was a spirit trying to come through me."
