After seven albums in more than twenty years, a six year hiatus and the passing of their co-founder and guitarist, Kyoko, Japanese experimental psych act, OOIOO, return with their new LP, nijimusi, which releases January 17th, 2020 via Thrill Jockey.
Led by YoshimiO, also a founding member of Boredoms (plus, member of Free Kitten alongside Kim Gordon and Pussy Galore's Julie Cafritz), the band's complex sound knows no barriers, and on this new record flirts intensely with traditional psychedelic rock and punk, as they decided to go mostly with a conventional rock ensemble of two guitars, bass, and drums.
Utilizing the most out of their tightly patterned and repetitive style of composition, the new album by the innovative band sounds very bright, based on the previously unveiled, kawasemi Ah, and the freshly revealed jibun which finds them emerging completely bold and unorthodox, despite the natural normalcy in their writing and arrangement.
OOIOO will be touring Europe this spring, including a their inclusion at Rewire Festival 2020 in the Netherlands with other notable acts, like Hildur Guðnadóttir, Ex Eye and The Caretaker.
