Denver-based multi-instrumentalist, Madeline Johnston through her dark dreampop project, Midwife, will release her six-song album, Forever, scheduled to come out April 10th, 2020 through a very appropriate home for her sound, San Francisco's The Flenser.
Forever began taking shape after the demise of Denver DIY space Rhinoceropolis, where the artist once resided and became close with her friend, Colin Ward, who passed away unexpectedly in 2018. The album is dedicated to his memory, as the dolefulness in Johnston's songwriting is balanced with equal parts of warmheartedness and dim rays of hope. "I wanted to write him a letter. I wanted to make something for him in his memory," she says of the album's aim.
The very sorrowful, S.W.I.M., is the latest track revealed off the album, a piece of shoegazing grace and beauty, and something that overpowers with its controlled expansiveness and disarming simplicity.
Midwife will be touring North America in support of the new LP, with an in between outing at the Flenser 10 Year Showcase at Roadburn Festival in Netherlands.
