Combining garage rock with glam and punk rock in an overall pretty forceful and electric sound, Canadian duo Phono Pony follow their debut album Monkey Paw from 2019 with a fuzzy and vigorous new single that puts on display the immediacy and straightforwardness of their art.
Back To School was recorded with Hot Hot Heat's Steve Bays, and it abounds in rock 'n' roll energy, as Phono Pony's gritty and enormous sound, together with the swiftness of their two and half-minute songcraft, come categorically reminiscent of prime garage rock. The song comes with a crazy, colorful animated video directed by Trippiesteff.
The Vancouver duo has shared stages with popular acts like Sublime With Rome, Snoop Dogg, Incubus, OUGHT, Sparta and more, and evidently they're on an upward slope
Phono Pony are Michael Kenyon (guita, vocals, theremin) and Shay Hayashi (drums, vocals, synth).
