Post rock pioneers, downy, are very fresh from the release of their seminal seventh album, 第7作品集『無題』, and follow the brilliant Dune, Scatter. Persistence Of Vision from last month with another visually and musically stunning piece of art.
New single, Haze, comes with another pictorially compelling video of stark black and white scenes, this time directed by QCONSAIBAI, and composed of pictures of more than eight thousand different objects and places put together in such an absorbing way to give rise to something utterly off-centre, nuanced and stimulating.
Haze is one of the harsher and intenser tracks on downy's new LP, as the song seems to be expressing the band's trajectory toward a noise rock and math rock sound while staying true to the progressive rock and emphatic electronica mixture on which they usually thrive. The outcome appears franker, imbued with jazzy elements, and skillfully warped into something atypical for post rock; part of an inherently downhearted and dark full length that brings downy's twenty year old career to a high point.
第7作品集『無題』is out now through FRIENDSHIP.
