A Reason To Celebrate is the second single from the coming Bedroom, the debut LP by the auspicious Hull/Leeds shoegaze quintet, bdrmm, scheduled to be released on July 3rd, 2020 through Sonic Cathedral.
Projecting a bit of an expected, yet, different side than that of the post punk-inclined previous single, Happy, the new piece is more of a characteristic shoegaze pop dynamite, much like the early Ride and the more approachable facet of My Bloody Valentine, while it owes a lot of its charming poise to the recording of Alex Greaves (Working Men’s Club, Bo Ningen) and the mastering done by Heba Kadry (Slowdive, Beach House).
“This is our ode to the genre, I think,” explains frontman Ryan Smith. “We wanted to make a proper shoegaze song. When we finished recording it, I think we were all a little overwhelmed – this was the music that we always wanted to make.
“The lyrics come from a place of realisation and understanding. It’s a battle between what you want and what you need to do. It’s about proudly, yet stupidly, letting go – and the voice in your head giving you all the different reasons why you should. I love this track; it’s a personal favourite. When we play it live, we never want to stop.”
