Songwriter and producer Chris Schackerman is also the guitarist for the very fine synthpop duo Arch Of Love. He records and produces his own original version of eighties-infused dark synthpop from his bedroom studio in Philadelphia, PA under the staple moniker Video Cult. The project's fist effort is the two-song release searching // different from the days which straightforwardly puts Video Cult on the darkwave map.
Considerably darker than his other project, Schackerman's new act draws from darkwave, synthpop and gothic pop's forefront, and touches on EBM and industrial, all through a vintage style of instrumentation, sincere vocals which shine by virtue of their light imperfections and copious warmth, and fundamentally sticking out for the pungency in one of the artist's strongest qualities: the well versed lyrical content.
With both tracks befitting of the A-sice status, the two-track single makes for a solid debut for the new act. searching takes a more vintage dark dance pop approach, and different from the days glows with a new wave personality and comes across memorable in every respect.
