An essentially conceptual act with a clear artistic vision, Bay Area's Botanist may be constantly challenging his audience's relations to botany, yet he always comes up with engaging releases and a sound which is unmistakably forceful, avantgardistic and forward looking.
Since the project's inception in 2009 all of Botanist's work has been centered on plants and flowers, presented through the point of view of a botanist gone mad from the environment's destruction at the hand of man. Thematically the upcoming Photosynthesis is no exception to the project's philosophy, and as its title clearly suggests, it deals with the natural process' many aspects, and how plants transform sunlight into energy.
Otrebor (hammered dulcimers, vocals, keyboards), the main creative force behind the Botanist name, enlists returning member Daturus (the project’s live drummer and contributor to 2019’s Ecosystem), together with Tony Thomas (Dawns Of Ouroboros, Sentient Ignition), making this the fourth album in Botanist’s discography which is being a group effort.
Photosynthesis finds Botanist returning to The Flenser for the first time since 2014's VI: Flora. The album was produced by acclaimed producer, Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, Dark Funeral, Bolt Thrower and many more), it has just been introduced with the adventurous first single, Water, and it releases in its entirety on October 30th, 2020.
