Toronto quartet, SWiiMS, draw from the most hazy, melodious and atmospherics sides of nineties indie rock to come forth with their own, very much auspicious gaze pop sound, showcased through a series of notable singles, the latest of which is the dreamy and enchanting, Hand of Love. The song is part of the band's debut release, Through Waves, out through Mint 400 Records.
Soft female vocals meet with a rich and textured but elegant style of production and the band's strong instrumental base, made from jangly and steadfast guitars, solid rhythms and an overall hazy atmosphere which brings to mind parts of eighties' new wave, nineties' britpop energy, and dreampop's everlasting endurance.
Hand of Love comes with a beautiful clip of simple modern inner-city visuals which add an additional layer of allure to the song's nocturnal shoegaze character.
SWiiMS are Mai Diaz Langou (vocals and guitar), Colin Thompson (guitarist), Ken Hume (drums) and Cian O’Ruanaidh (bass).
