Deaf Dance is the dark synthpop/post punk project of Jerry Narrows, former singer of Flaamingos who released their self tilted album on Felte in 2013, as well as a split with The KVB a little later. Deaf Dance have put out one full length and two EPs thus far, the latest of which, Sad Planet EP, from 2019, shows the project's stable placement in the darker side of new wave.
EP centerpiece, A Mask, is an energizing and memorable gothic pop piece, as well as a successful means for the artist to showcase a frim style of songwriting and a fine production. Those strong qualities may not differentiate enough the sound of Deaf Dance from the genre's tropes, still there's the distinctive touch that both the personal lyrical content and the crooning performance present, elements that become an adequate counterbalance to the music's Joy Division-esque iciness.
