A few months after the release of Skeleton / Unclean Spirit which teased a potential Lost Themes III release by horror master, John Carpenter, the album is finally verified and announced, and expected to come out on February 5th, 2021 through Sacred Bones.
Lost Themes III: Alive After Death finds the prolific artist once more collaborating with his son, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies, like the steady trio they've been on their few releases so far, including 2017’s Anthology, and new music for the Halloween film franchise.
“We begin with a theme, a bass line, a pad, something that sounds good and will lead us to the next layer,” John Carpenter comments on the creative process. “We then just keep adding on from there. We understand each other's strengths and weaknesses, how to communicate without words, and the process is easier now than it was in the beginning. We’ve matured.”
The suspense-inducing lead single, Weeping Ghost, comes all progressive bent, yet, it also sounds in line with contemporary synthwave's current proclivity and its dalliance with the horror genre, and at the same time like something lifted from an eighties score of a Carpenter film.
