In the teeth of the mess that 2020 has been, Tropical Fuck Stom haven't stopped being productive. The band's latest release, a seven-inch on Joyful Noise Recordings, finds them reviving an old original, and covering a Talking Heads song, brilliantly so.
Legal Ghost was originally recorded in the nineties as part of the album Bong Odyssey by TFS's Gareth Liddiard and his bandmate in The Drones, Rui Pereira. These old recording were recently issued through TFS Records digitally, and on vinyl by Bang! Records.
TFS new take brings the most out of the song, and turns it from a lo-fi obscurity to a fully fledged indie rock jewel.
"This is the first song I ever wrote that I thought was a decent song," Gareth reveals. "Everything before it was just a big tantrum, but this song had a touch of class. When I was putting the Bong Odyssey record together again last year, I heard it and thought it was something that could work well with TFS. The original was really cool, but it still sounded more like a sketch of a song and wasn't quite fully realized, so I took the song to TFS and we fleshed it out a bit."
Together with their previous single, Suburbiopia, it will all included in TFS's forthcoming record due out in 2021.
