On False Desire, the last single unveiled ahead of the release of Topographies' anticipated debut album, Ideal Form, the San Francisco band channel their immediate connection to the early Cure more than any other time, while they also brandish the songwriting strengths of Gray Tolhurst through the directness that the new piece puts on.
False Desire is melancholic post punk at its finest, as the song's appeal is achieved by way of both a very hazy style of instrumentation and production, and a characteristic sentimentality which darkly shines in the band's delivery.
