Kai Tak is the new collaborative solo project of Los Angeles-based musician and producer, Chris King, who has also been a member of the acclaimed shoegaze/post punk band, Cold Showers.
Jalen Rose is the project's new single, done in collaboration with the also LA-based shoegazers, Draag. Chris King wrote the song together with Draag's Adrian Acosta and Jessica Huang via email and text conversations, basing its inspiration on King's childhood memories of the refugee camp where his parents were social workers, as well as on the recollection of late night walks through Hong Kong's Wan Chai neighborhood.
The new track appears very close to the lively psychedelic dreampop of Draag's previous releases, while it also illustrates Kai Tak's exploratory tendencies and collaborative spirit which undoubtedly will have a lot to offer in the near future.
Kai Tak is currently working on a debut full length which will feature collaborations with different artists on every song, themed on eighties and nineties British era Hong Kong.
