Between darkwave, EBM and art pop, Chicago's Pixel Grip bring their all around eccentricity to the utmost, and prepare for the release of their sophomore album, ARENA, expected out later in 2021. First single, Pursuit, drives the trio's dance pop energy through a dark route, and comes out fully invigorating.
"Being in an audience of freaks, queers, fetish people, all in the same room sweating together, and we all knew our purpose, and we were manic and arrogant," Pixel Grip vocalist, Rita Lukea, says.
"Pursuit distills a very specific feeling to me: the feeling of surrendering power, the feeling of having your love chewed up and spit out, the feeling of getting toyed with," Lukea explains the single's intent. "Sometimes love isn’t empowering; in fact it can be humiliating and disabling. The only way I can take my power back is to pretend like it’s my decision. This song is designed to be screamed along with by an audience who understands the pain."
Pixel Grip's roster is rounded out by Jonathan Freund and Tyler Ommen, and together with Lukea, they come up with themes of social concern and consciousness, as well as concept of grave importance like mental illness.
Pursuit comes with a music video directed and produced by Emulsion Lab.
