Hong Kong's rising shoegazers Lucid Express have signed with the esteemed Brooklyn-based label Kanine Records (The Natvral, Pearl Charles, Grizzly Bear), on which they'll be releasing their upcoming self-titled album on July 16th, 2021.
Introductory single, Wellwave, comes in all its woozy, psychedelic dreampop distinction, mixed by Max Bloom from Yuck. The track is paired to an accordingly colorful and dreamlike video shot on Tai Mo Shan, the tallest mountain in Hong Kong, featuring scenes from the beautiful environment admixed with visuals from the band performing.
Lucid Express go back to 2014 when they formed a little before the Umbrella Movement protests. Vocalist and synth player Kim outlines that “at that time it felt like we have a need to hold on to something more beautiful than before. Like close friendships, the band, our creation.”
Against that political and social bleakness, Lucid Express were capable of coming up with radiant shoegaze pop such as the very much identifying of their sound, Wellwave, all bright, warm and hopeful at once.
