From Caen, France, post punk trio, Veik, are gearing up for the release of their incoming debut album, Surrounding Structures, expected out on April 30th, 2021 on Fuzz Club Records. Latest single and video, Château Guitar, is a mesmeric piece of post punk nerve met with krautrock expansiveness, and it shows the band's deftness and their vision for an elaborate, penetrating sound pretty clearly.
The wonderfully laid out, immersive repetition in Château Guitar generates parallelisms to art rock/experimental-bent contemporaries like Beak> and The Girl Band, but it has its foundation in krautrock essentials like Can, Cluster and Neu!, with a dash of the dark irregularity of Suicide.
The band describe it as an endeavor "to get to grips with the codes, conventions and structures of techno music but performed with our usual live setup of synths, drums and guitar."
"The video presents a more intimate and intricate portrait of the relationship between humans and machines," they comment on the accompanying visual. "It was directed by French director Léo Gack and shot on 16mm film, in the tradition of the 'cinéma vérité' films of the 1960s."
Veik are Boris Collet (drums, vocals), Adrien Legrand (synths, backing vocals) and Vincent Condominas (guitar/bass).
