Both members of the rising Austin, Texas-based electro-goth band, WeirdWolves, have grounds in the video game arts, as Raphael Colantonio is the former Founder and Creative Director of Arkane Studios, responsible for the hit franchises Dishonored and Prey, while guitarist and vocalist Ava Gore has contributed vocals to the soundtrack of Prey. The fresh band has emerged with a few notable first single releases, the latest of which is Overdrive, a dark cut which sees the duo already fleshing out and ripening their sound.
"I’ve been a fan of Raphael’s work with Arkane Studios for a while," says Josh Boardman of Battle Tapes who produced the new track. "So when he reached out to me about working with WeirdWolves on a song they were writing for his next game I was intrigued.
"Once I heard the demo, I was excited by how much potential it had and where I could fit in to the equation. Working with Raf and Ava as a team on this song really helped us to fully realize what the song was trying to become."
Although Overdrive is themed on the grave notions of mortality and impermanence, and comes across as a hopeful new cut for Colantonio and Gore, from which the latter has dark musicianship running in her DNA, with her father being the great Martin Gore of Depeche Mode.
