Light Conductor are Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes) and Stephen Ramsay (Young Galaxy), an experimental instrumental act which will be following its 2019 debut album with the second full length, Sequence Two, arriving on October 29th, 2021 via Constellation Records.
Lead track, Splitting Light, comes in a concise radio edit, and in its full 14-minute glory, with the band's analog synth sound completely deployed, covering a range which begins from progressive rock and krautrock, goes though traditional electronica and ambient, and even reaches the limits of nineties indie rock. The song's choral part marks the only appearance of vocals on the otherwise entirely instrumental album.
Light Conductor's wide-ranging experimentalism seems to be mostly based on improvisation, however, the engaging progressions, the inventive, beatless instrumentation and the long forms and structures, fundamentally suggest that everything is coming from a place of meticulous and intrinsic musicianship.
