Coming from Oslo, Norway, Liongeist emerged from the local scene back in 2012. About a decade later, the band keep carrying parts of the post hardcore aspect of their sound, but have clearly steered toward a different course, that of an even heavier and more sentimental direction, recalling the post metal expressiveness of acts like Russian Circles, This Will Destroy You, Sannhet and more.
The Tunnel at the End of the Light is Liongest's new single through which the band address the "seemingly neverending journey back to normality," and deliver something exceedingly heavy and downright emotional. The eight-minute instrumental moves through a progressive rock blueprint to even reach the boundaries of atmospheric black metal, and blend weightiness with alluring melody quite giftedly.
Above all, The Tunnel at the End of the Light is a punchy post metal number, written and recorded during the lockdown of 2020, which captures its time's defeatism quite accurately.
