A paradigm of immaculate production and synthpop lavishness, Marigold is the first single and video from Gold, the sophomore record by Los Angeles-based visual artist and musician Riki. Having previously been involved in the deathrock and anarcho-punk scenes in Bay Area, Riki took a different direction with her solo project, and released the very well received self-titled album last year. From the first example, the anticipated full length seems like an evenly striking foray.
On Marigold Riki engages in a dialogue with the album’s co-producer, Telefon Tel Aviv's Joshua Eustis, as the two share vocal duties. The song is a blast of luxuriant pop and a pristine implementation of a parade of influences from the eighties into something which belongs to the underground, but has also prospects for larger audiences.
Riki describes her lyrical inspiration for her new work as “very much what’s going on in my life, things I wanted to say but didn’t have the platform.”
Marigold comes with an impressive visual directed by Muted Widows. Gold releases on November 26th, 2021 through Dais Records.
