Coming from Brooklyn, indie dreampop band Colatura prepare for the release of their upcoming debut album, scheduled to arrive in 2022. We Run On Empty is the latest example off it, the band's third single of the year, and it demonstrates Colatura's airier and wispier side, emerging as an exemplary modern dreampop cut.
We Run On Empty is a glum and at the same time lucid and distinct song which bases its concept on the hazy notion of losing one's identity through being part of a toxic relationship. With main focus on the vocal delicacy and the steady emotional and instrumental buildup, the song finds Colatura at their most intimate.
We Run On Empty comes with a video self-shot by the band in a nice-looking airbnb upstate New York airbnb. The band's own Jennica Best describes: "We tried to find the weirdest one we could, and lucked out with one that had amazing and different grandmother-style wallpaper in each room. We also bought a fog machine to add some extra ambiance, which was great until we set off the smoke alarm mid-take."
Colatura are Jennica Best (bass, vocals), Meredith Lampe (synth, guitar, vocals), Digo Best (guitar, vocals) and Alex Kirkpatrick (drums).
