In an atypical and commendable manner, Self Destroy, the latest concept EP by New York punks Nihiloceros, is a distinct piece of work and an approachable listen at the same time. The album is out through Totally Real Records, and it largely slants toward punk, emo and lo-fi rock among other alternative rock sounds.
The band comment that the EP is about "the unraveling of the human condition and the end of the world." Closing number, Odie, features the contribution of Stephanie Gunther (Desert Sharks, Murder Tag). Nihiloceros describe: "Odie is the doom prom as we inevitably dance away into nothingness and the very end drops an entire broken piano on what's left of human existence."
