Following a quite long hiatus, esteemed alternative rockers MFMB, previously stylized as MF/MB/, are making a strong comeback with their anticipated album, Sugar, the follow-up to 2012's acclaimed, Colossus.
Harvest is the feature single, a dark and driving piece drenched in impending dread, and also a reintroduction to the nihilistic krautrock approaches which marked the band's earlier work.
MFMB describe the new single as "a song about the fear of losing it all. Harvest helped establish the kind of ambiance we wanted for the record as a whole."
"Sugar is seven years in the making, marking nine years since our last full-length release Colossus (2013). It has been a bumpy ride, " the band remark on the entirety of their new album. "The tours following Colossus took their toll, leaving us in a state of internal friction - infighting basically. Then when it finally came time to work on Sugar, when it was decided the process of composing songs should be a completely democratic one, tensions increased further. We were not always the best of friends. Priorities changed. Members quit, then joined again. It was never easy. But we feel you can hear it on the album, how every song is a result of differing opinions fighting it out until we landed. But in the end, it's MFMB, but ringing purer than ever before."
MFMB have remained productive during their absence, with Joakim Lindberg having built a reputation as a valuable producer, working with acts such as Hey Elbow, Spunsugar and This Is Head among others.
The band have also released a performance video for Harvest, recorded at Sickan Studios showcasing MFMB's reputable live dynamics.
