For Ukraine (Volume 2) is a compilation curated by composer Hollie Kenniff, released by Headphone Commute. It includes ambient and contemporary classical composers from all over the world who have joined forces to generate funds for relocated children and families affected by Ukraine's current crisis.
The great Ryuichi Sakamoto collaborated with Ukrainian violinist Illia Bondarenko on the atmospheric new number Piece for Illia. Exchanging files, the two produced the song which is a sincere plea for unity and the end of violence.
Illia has been performing and connecting musicians from a bomb shelter in Ukraine, including a magnificent violin flashmob in which Ukrainian violinists were engaged in unison by elite violinists from over the world. Ultimately, 94 violinists from 29 nations participated.
The benefit compilation also includes contributions from artists such as Helios, Sophie Hutching, Rachel Grimes, Julianna Barwick, Benoît Pioulard and more. All of all the proceeds (excluding Bandcamp's revenue share and payment processor fees) will be donated to the International Rescue Committee to support displaced children and families with vital supplies.
