Gainesville, Florida trio, Thunderclap, are keeping it heavy on their new two-song release, Knife/Fist, out through Ashtray Monument. The new seven-inch is composed of the punkier lead track, Knife/Fist, and the moodier, sludgy noise rocker, Braincloud.
The entire release conveys the band's eagerness for things to return to normal, as it was written during the days of the pandemic, and it brings up ideas of optimism, looking forward to a time when people will once again gather together comfortably.
The songs incorporate elements from the punk backgrounds of the band's members, remaining true to the trio's own sound based on strong doomy riffs and heavy moods.
In its forceful lyricism, the slow-burning Braincloud reflects sentiments of rage and wistfulness, indicating the band's yearning for a brighter future in an evident manner.
Knife/Fist was produced at The Moathouse in Gainesville by Roger Lima of Less Than Jake.
