After a more than competent first full length, underground shoegaze/post punk act DETECTS return to delivering more condensed offerings with the two-song digital single, Pretend To Change, consisting of the darker, post punk-hued Saving Time and the livelier shoegaze of Buildings & Bars. Pretend To Change was released to correlate with DETECTS's first live concert, which will take place next week.
Both tracks are rather acute in terms of instrumental and production quality, with Saving Time definitely leaning toward the band's moodier side by being one of their darkest offerings to date. Buildings & Bars, on the other hand, alludes to the nineties indie rock inspirations that the band bears with efficiency and confidence, and properly represents their shoegaze pop craftmanship.
